Suchismita started singing since the tender age of three and got initial training in music from her mother. Recognizing her talent, her parents encouraged her to pursue classical music which she started learning formally at the age of four. She appeared on the national TV channel Doordarshan programs for children quite frequently.
As she was growing up, Suchismita's ambition as a performer also grew. She landed under the wings of Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty in 1990 as a student of the prestigious SRA (Sangeet Research Academy). In 1992, she achieved the status of a Scholar of SRA.
Suchismita had achieved first position in a competition for Rabindra Sangeet organized by the cultural wing of Soviet Consulate in Calcutta at the age of Eight. She had again achieved first position in a competition for Khayal, Thumri and Dadra organized by West Bengal State Sangeet Academy. Suchismita’s national recognition in the world of radio programming was followed by one of her most outstanding performances at the prestigious All India Radio Music Competition in which she had again achieved first position.
Her passion for music and relentless efforts to pursue it are evident through her equal expertise in various music genres - light classical, devotional, Hindi and Bengali film songs, Ghazals, Modern songs, etc. She has done playback for many TV serials, Telefilms, Jingles etc. Her performances continue to be aired regularly on various Television networks (Zee-TV, Tara-TV, E-TV, DD-7 Calcutta Doordarshan, etc.). She has participated in vocal recitals throughout India including World Habitat Center, Delhi, India International Center, Delhi. She has also been performing regularly in various concerts, conducting music workshops as well as giving lectures extensively throughout United States & Canada since quite a few years now. Suchismita's album releases include Bhajans, Bangla Adhunik compilation and Nazrul Geeti.
Suchismita was one of the hosts of "SaReGaMaPa Tumi Na Ami" - a very popular show on Zee Bangla TV channel.
